Grace O'Malley : The Space Pirate Queen

Grace O'Malley Premium Spirits is an alcohol brand inspired by the legendary Irish pirate queen Grainne Ní Mháille or Grace O'Malley from Mayo in the 1500s. They wanted to illustrate the life of the real life Grace O'Malley for promotional materials and to do so in an unexpected way that doesn't lean into the traditional stereotypes of old Ireland. The brief was to go all in on a blue sky idea. And so Grace O'Malley the Space Pirate Queen was born. We took her real life story and paired it with fantastical recreations of that moment in space. Her life as a merchant in rural Ireland is illustrated with her selling crystals on a space ship.

The images contain nods to Celtic Ireland inspired by the markings at Newgrange which are so ancient and timeless they could live in any time period or context. The Grace O'Malley product appears in many of the illustrations with the magical multitudes of the universe reflected in the glass bottle.
