Grace O'Malley Premium Spirits is an alcohol brand inspired by the legendary Irish pirate queen Grainne Ní Mháille or Grace O'Malley from Mayo in the 1500s. They wanted to illustrate the life of the real life Grace O'Malley for promotional materials and to do so in an unexpected way that doesn't lean into the traditional stereotypes of old Ireland as O'Malley was not the traditional type. The brief was to go all in on a blue sky idea. And so Grace O'Malley the Space Pirate Queen was born. We took her real life story and paired it with fantastical recreations of that moment in space. Her life as a merchant in rural Ireland is illustrated with her selling crystals on a space ship. Her meeting with Queen Elizabeth II to negotiate releasing her family who were taken hostage is illustrated as a meeting with an alien invader.
